Assembly and Rework Services in Southern California

Repackaging, reconfiguration, light assembly, and correction work done on your inventory inside our Montclair warehouse. The product gets rebuilt, relabeled, or repacked here, so your own team, floor space, and schedule are not tied up doing it.

Overview

Assembly & Rework at The Papez Company

The Papez Company is a family-owned and operated warehouse in Montclair, CA, in the Inland Empire, approximately 50 miles from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. We provide assembly and rework services, including product repackaging, relabeling, and re-boxing, for importers, e-commerce brands, marketplace sellers, manufacturers, and distributors.

This is the hands-on warehouse work most businesses would rather not do in their own building: breaking down and rebuilding packs, assembling products from components, replacing labels, re-boxing damaged cartons, and getting inventory into the exact configuration a retailer or marketplace expects. It takes tables, people, tape, cartons, and floor space, and it tends to show up at the worst time, right when a container lands or a purchase order changes. We do it on inventory that is already here or that you send in for the job.

Because storage, pick and pack, and FBA and WFS prep happen in the same building, reworked product does not need to be trucked anywhere to be stored or shipped. It goes back to a rack location or straight out the door.

What's included

What our assembly and rework service includes

  • Product repackaging

Product is moved out of its inbound packaging and into the retail, e-commerce, or bulk packaging you need. Inner packs, master cartons, and poly bags are handled as part of the job.

  • Pack count and configuration changes

Cases are broken down and rebuilt to new pack counts. Singles become multipacks or kits (often called kitting), bulk cartons become inner packs, and mixed assortments are built to a spec you provide.

  • Light assembly

Components arrive separately and leave as a finished product. We assemble, insert, and pack to your instructions, using the parts and packaging you supply and a build sample or written spec as the reference.

  • Label correction and relabeling

Wrong barcodes, missing country-of-origin marks, outdated artwork, and misapplied labels are removed and replaced so the unit scans and reads the way the receiver expects.

  • Re-boxing and damage rework

Crushed, torn, or stained cartons are opened, contents are inspected, and sound product is re-boxed in fresh packaging. Damaged units are set aside and reported to you.

  • Display-ready and distribution prep

Display cases, mixed pallets, and retailer-specific carton builds are assembled on the floor, then palletized, wrapped, and staged for outbound freight or parcel shipping.

Storage plus labor

Rework done in our Southern California warehouse on inventory already in the building

Most of the assembly and rework we do is on product we are already storing. A customer keeps pallets in our warehouse, a retailer changes its packaging requirement or a marketplace listing changes pack size, and instead of shipping inventory out to a co-packer and back, the repackaging happens a few aisles from where the product sits, in our Inland Empire warehouse.

That saves the freight in both directions, keeps the inventory count in one place, and means finished units go directly back into a pick location or onto an outbound pallet. If you are not storing with us yet, you can send inventory in for a rework project and have it stored, shipped, or forwarded afterward.

  • No freight to and from a separate co-packer
  • Inventory counts updated as work is completed
  • Finished units go back to stock or straight to shipping
  • Project-only inventory accepted for one-time jobs

Marketplace and retail prep

Getting product into the condition a receiver will accept

Amazon fulfillment centers, Walmart's fulfillment network, and retail distribution centers each have their own rules for how a unit must be labeled, bagged, bundled, and boxed. Product that arrives out of spec gets refused, returned, or held, and the seller pays for the round trip. Rework is how you fix that before it ships.

We combine this work with our FBA and WFS forwarding service: units are labeled, poly-bagged, bundled, or boxed to the requirement you give us, then palletized and forwarded to the fulfillment center. For B2B retail orders, the same crew builds cartons and pallets to the retailer's routing guide and hands them to freight for pickup.

How it works

How an assembly or rework project runs

  1. 1

    Scope the work

You tell us what the product is, what it looks like now, and what it needs to look like when finished. We review a sample or photos, confirm the materials needed, and [quote the job](/contact).

  2. 2

    Receive or pull inventory

If the product is already in storage, we pull it to the work area. If not, you ship it in and we receive it, count it, and stage it for the project.

  3. 3

    Perform the work

Units are repacked, assembled, relabeled, or re-boxed to the spec. Damaged or short units are set aside and reported so you know exactly what came out the other end.

  4. 4

    Return to stock or ship

Finished product goes back to a storage location, into pick and pack, onto a pallet for FBA or WFS forwarding, or out the door as a freight shipment. Inventory counts are updated to match.

Who it's for

Who uses assembly and rework

  • Importers whose containers arrive in bulk packaging that has to be broken down for retail or e-commerce
  • Amazon and Walmart sellers who need units bundled, bagged, or relabeled before they are forwarded
  • Brands changing pack counts, building multipacks, or rolling a new package design across existing inventory
  • Manufacturers that ship components separately and need finished goods assembled near the Los Angeles market
  • Distributors building display-ready cases and mixed pallets for retail purchase orders
  • Any business with a labeling or packaging problem on inventory it cannot afford to ship back to the source

Why The Papez Company

Why businesses send this work to The Papez Company

  • Your team stays on your work

Rework is a staffing problem as much as a warehouse problem. Sending it here keeps your people on sales, production, and customer service instead of taping cartons.

  • No floor space tied up

A rework project can take over a shipping area for days. The work happens in our warehouse, on our floor, so nothing in your building has to move.

  • One inventory, one handoff

Product stays in the same building through storage, rework, and shipping. Counts are updated as work is finished, and there is no second vendor to coordinate.

  • Direct answers from the people doing the work

We are family-owned and operated. When you have a question about a build spec or a batch in progress, you talk to someone who has seen the product.

FAQ

Assembly & Rework questions, answered

What kinds of products can you assemble or rework?

General consumer and commercial goods: packaged products, components that need to be combined, cartons that need to be rebuilt, and units that need new labels or packaging. If your product has special handling or regulatory requirements, or you are unsure whether it fits, describe it in a quote request and we will tell you.

Do I need to store inventory with you to use assembly and rework?

No. Doing both is the most efficient arrangement because the work happens on product already in the building, but you can also send inventory in for a single project and have it shipped back, forwarded to a marketplace, or stored afterward.

Who supplies packaging, labels, and materials?

Send us the cartons, labels, inserts, and packaging you want used, and we will confirm quantities during scoping so the job does not stall partway through. Tell us what you have on hand when you request a quote.

Can you rework units that Amazon or Walmart rejected?

Yes. Inventory that was refused for labeling, bagging, or packaging problems can be shipped to our warehouse, corrected to the requirement, and forwarded again through our FBA and WFS service.

Where is your rework warehouse located?

Our warehouse is at 4060 Mission Blvd., Montclair, CA 91763, in the Inland Empire on the Interstate 10 corridor, bordering Los Angeles County, approximately 50 miles from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Assembly, rework, and repackaging are all done in this building. Call 909-229-4482 or send a quote request to scope a project.

How long does a rework project take?

It depends on unit count, how much handling each unit needs, and whether materials are on hand. We do not estimate a project until we have seen the product and the spec. Once we have scoped the job, we tell you what to expect and keep you updated as the work moves.
